Cream Buns and Crime is the first companion collection to the Wells and Wong novels. Daisy and Hazel explain the organisation of the Detective Society, introduce friends and rivals, recommend detective reading and offer practical guidance on observation, codes and case management. The volume also gathers shorter investigations, including the Case of Lavinia’s Missing Tie, the Case of the Deepdean Vampire and the Case of the Blue Violet.

The stories expand the everyday world between the major murder cases rather than forming a tenth novel. Small thefts, rumours and romantic puzzles show how Deepdean’s dormitories, prefects and school customs produce mysteries even when no body is present.
