George Rogers Clark

1752–1818

George Rogers Clark was an American militia officer whose campaigns in the Illinois Country supported the revolutionary cause on the western frontier. His captures of Kaskaskia, Cahokia and Vincennes strengthened United States claims northwest of the Ohio River, although his later career was marked by debt and declining public influence.
