Hittites

The Hittites examines the Bronze Age kingdom centred in Anatolia that became a major rival of Egypt and other Near Eastern powers. It follows the growth of the state from Hattusa, its military campaigns and the dynastic politics recorded in an unusually rich archive of clay tablets.

The book considers law, religion, diplomacy and the chariot warfare associated with the battle of Kadesh. It also addresses the empire’s collapse around 1200 BCE and the later rediscovery of Hittite language and history through archaeology and the decipherment of cuneiform records.
