Hope and Glory

The Hope and Glory sequence presents the history of modern Israel through four fictional officers, their partners and their children. The Hope covers the state’s formation in 1948, the Suez Crisis and the Six-Day War, combining battlefield operations with intelligence work, diplomacy and the strains placed on families living under repeated mobilisation.

The Glory continues from 1967 through the Yom Kippur War, Operation Entebbe, the attack on Iraq’s Osirak reactor and the Camp David peace process. Real political and military leaders appear beside the recurring fictional cast. Together, the two novels connect national policy with private consequence across Israel’s first four decades.
