The Falklands War
The Falklands War recounts the 1982 conflict that followed Argentina’s occupation of the Falkland Islands and Britain’s decision to send a naval task force to recover them. It covers the long South Atlantic deployment, air and naval fighting, the sinking of major warships and the land campaign that culminated around Port Stanley. The book also examines the political calculations in Buenos Aires and London and the war’s lasting effect on both countries.
The campaign demonstrates the logistical difficulty of projecting force across the South Atlantic. Carrier aviation, merchant shipping, submarine warfare and improvised supply arrangements are central to the British operation, while diplomacy continues alongside combat. The book therefore treats the war as both a series of battles and a test of whether political aims could be sustained at extreme distance.
