In March 1917, industrialist Spenser Cochran transports Don Simon Ysidro across the Atlantic aboard a luxury liner after using drugs to enslave the vampire. Lydia Asher secures passage to rescue Ysidro before Cochran reaches the United States and demonstrates that vampires can be chemically controlled.

James remains in Europe, bargaining with the vampires of Paris to send Lydia information about the drug. When passengers begin dying, she realises that a second vampire is hunting aboard the ship, forcing her to solve the murders, break Cochran’s control and prevent the vessel from delivering either secret to wartime authorities.
