Frontal Attack

A British infantry unit faces a major German attack after years of trench warfare have exhausted both armies. The soldiers must survive artillery preparation, infiltration and repeated assaults while officers struggle to maintain a coherent line across ground that communications and bombardment have reduced to chaos. The battle tests men who have learned to distrust promises of a decisive offensive.

Frontal Attack begins the Heroes of WW1 sequence in the crisis of 1918. Rather than treating the Western Front as permanently static, it shows how carefully prepared attacks could rupture established defences and force rapid improvisation. The novel’s interest lies in the experience of infantry ordered to hold positions that may already have been outflanked or destroyed.
