92nd Infantry Division in Italy

1944–1945 CE

The United States Army’s 92nd Infantry Division was a segregated African American formation whose principal combat service during the Second World War took place in Italy. Its soldiers began arriving in the theatre during the summer of 1944 and entered combat along the Ligurian and Tuscan fronts.

The division fought within an army that assigned Black troops unequal resources, opportunities and expectations. Soldiers faced German forces and difficult mountain terrain while also serving a country that maintained racial segregation at home and within its own military institutions.

Miracle at St. Anna follows four fictional members of the division separated behind enemy lines.
