Edward Braddock

Edward Braddock was a British general sent to North America during the opening of the French and Indian War. His 1755 expedition against Fort Duquesne ended in a devastating defeat near the Monongahela, where he was mortally wounded.

Edward Braddock was born in Perthshire and died in Pennsylvania. Sent to North America as commander-in-chief in 1755, Braddock led an expedition against Fort Duquesne; his column was decisively defeated near the Monongahela, and Braddock died from wounds sustained in the battle.
