Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
1881–1938
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was an Ottoman officer who led the Turkish nationalist movement after the First World War and became the first president of the Republic of Turkey. His government abolished the sultanate and caliphate and imposed far-reaching legal, educational, linguistic and social reforms through an authoritarian one-party state.
