The Sceapig Chronicles

The Sceapig Chronicles follows one family on the Isle of Sheppey, known to the Anglo-Saxons as Sceapig, from the first Viking raids at the end of the eighth century to Alfred the Great’s wars against the Great Heathen Army. Deer herders, landowners and royal advisers are drawn from island life into the defence of Kent and Wessex.

Across three generations, the trilogy shows the Viking threat changing from coastal raiding to conquest and settlement. The family’s service to Æthelwulf, Ecgberht and Alfred links local survival with naval strategy, royal administration and the longer struggle to preserve and unite the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.
