Soviet Partisans on the Eastern Front, 1941–1945

Soviet partisan forces operated behind German lines after the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. Their activities included intelligence gathering, railway sabotage, attacks on occupation personnel and support for Red Army operations.

Partisan organisation ranged from locally formed groups to units directed by Soviet authorities. Their relationships with civilians were complex, shaped by German reprisals, forced requisitioning, ethnic conflict and competition with other resistance movements.
