The Wanderer Chronicles

The Wanderer Chronicles follow Hakan—later Erlan Aurvandil—from the pre-Viking societies of eighth-century Scandinavia into the wider political world of Byzantium. A Mighty Dawn begins with exile from northern Jutland; A Sacred Storm moves to Sweden and the legendary Battle of Bråvellir; A Burning Sea carries Erlan and Lilla to Constantinople during the Umayyad siege of 717–718; and A Savage Moon begins in the siege’s aftermath as they attempt to return north.

Brun describes the series as historical fantasy set in the darkness before the Viking Age. The early books rely heavily on archaeology, Norse literature and disputed legend, while the third brings the fictional characters into a securely documented Byzantine crisis. Across the sequence, warfare, oath-bound loyalty, pagan belief and supernatural motifs remain intertwined with Erlan’s search for identity and redemption.
