Thomas Kerr of Ferniehirst

Sir Thomas Kerr of Ferniehirst was a Scottish Border lord, soldier and supporter of Mary, Queen of Scots. As head of a powerful reiving family, he operated in the violent frontier politics of the Middle March.

Kerr fought against English forces and took part in the Marian civil war after Mary’s deposition. His life links local feud and raiding with the larger diplomatic and religious struggle between Scotland and England.
