Sargon of Akkad

Sargon of Akkad was the founder of the Akkadian Empire and one of the earliest rulers known to have created a large territorial state in Mesopotamia. Later traditions turned his rise to power into legend, while royal inscriptions and archaeology connect his dynasty with imperial administration, military expansion and the spread of the Akkadian language.
