Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh

Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh, was an Anglo-Irish politician who served as acting chief secretary during the rebellion of 1798.
Castlereagh participated in the government response to the United Irish movement and the suppression of the rebellion. He subsequently played a leading role in securing the Act of Union between Great Britain and Ireland. Thomas Pakenham’s histories place this figure within the political and military events covered by the relevant book.
