Richard Lower

Richard Lower was an English physician and physiologist known for research on the heart, circulation and blood transfusion.

Lower studied at Oxford, assisted Thomas Willis and conducted influential experiments on circulation and transfusion. He is a significant figure in An Instance of the Fingerpost, whose fictional medical inquiry draws on the competitive experimental work of Lower and his contemporaries.
