Olive Oatman
1837–1903
Olive Oatman was an American migrant who lived among the Yavapai and Mohave after an attack on her family’s wagon party in 1851. Her return to American society, facial tattoo and published captivity narrative made her life central to nineteenth-century frontier storytelling, although later accounts often distorted the Mohave community in which she lived.
