Mary Lindell
1895–1987
Mary Lindell was a British-born nurse who lived for many years in France and became involved in escape and Resistance work during the Second World War. She helped Allied servicemen evade German forces and move through clandestine routes, operating in a field in which capture exposed agents and helpers to imprisonment, torture and execution.
Lindell was arrested and imprisoned, surviving Ravensbrück concentration camp before liberation. Helen Fry discusses her in MI9 as one of the women who supported escape and evasion operations and in the wider history of women’s intelligence work.
