Mary Bobo

Mary Agnes Evans was born near Lynchburg and married Lacy Jackson Bobo. In 1908 she became proprietor of the local boarding house, a business unusual for a woman to direct independently in the region at that time. The house served travellers, townspeople and employees connected with the nearby distillery.

Bobo continued running the establishment for most of her long life and became a symbol of Lynchburg hospitality. She died in 1983 at the age of 101. The boarding house was later preserved as a restaurant associated with the Jack Daniel Distillery.
