Louis Botha
1862–1919
Louis Botha was a Boer general and statesman who became one of the principal Transvaal commanders during the Second Boer War.
Botha commanded Boer forces in Natal and later directed guerrilla operations against the British. He played a central role in peace negotiations and subsequently became the first prime minister of the Union of South Africa. Thomas Pakenham’s histories place this figure within the political and military events covered by the relevant book.
