Historical person
Li Xiangjun
1624–1654
Li Xiangjun was a singer, musician, poet and courtesan in late Ming Nanjing.
She became known for her relationship with the scholar Hou Fangyu and for resistance to political coercion during the Southern Ming crisis. Her story was later transformed into the central romance of Kong Shangren’s play The Peach Blossom Fan. In Alice Poon’s historical fiction, this person is represented within the Ming–Qing transition or the founding of the Qing dynasty.
