Joan de Geneville, 2nd Baroness Geneville

Joan de Geneville was an Anglo-Irish heiress whose marriage to Roger Mortimer brought him extensive estates in the Welsh Marches and Ireland. She managed family property through rebellion, imprisonment and Mortimer’s rise and fall, surviving his execution in 1330 and later recovering part of her inheritance.

In Anne O’Brien’s A Court of Betrayal, Fifteen-year-old heiress Joan de Geneville marries Roger Mortimer, heir to one of the region’s most powerful lordships.
