Jack Fawcett
Jack Fawcett was the eldest son of the British explorer Percy Fawcett. In 1925 he accompanied his father and Jack’s friend Raleigh Rimell into the Brazilian interior in search of the supposed lost civilisation that Percy called ‘Z’.
The expedition disappeared after sending messages from the upper Xingu region. No conclusive evidence has established what happened to the three men, and their fate became one of the enduring mysteries of twentieth-century exploration.
In David Grann’s The Lost City of Z, in 1925 he entered Brazil’s Mato Grosso with his son Jack Fawcett and Jack’s friend Raleigh Rimell, intending to travel lightly and avoid the large expeditions that had previously damaged relations with Indigenous communities.
