Frédéric Chopin
1810–1849
Frédéric Chopin was born in the Duchy of Warsaw in 1810 and emerged as an exceptional pianist and composer while still young. After leaving Poland in 1830 he settled in Paris, where he became part of a cosmopolitan artistic world while maintaining close connections with Polish émigré society. His output concentrated overwhelmingly on the piano and transformed forms including the nocturne, mazurka, polonaise and étude.
