Historical person
Eva Braun
1912–1945
Eva Braun met Adolf Hitler while working for the photographer Heinrich Hoffmann and became his long-term companion. She spent considerable time at Hitler’s Berghof residence, where she photographed and filmed members of the private household, although her existence was largely concealed from the German public.
Braun joined Hitler in Berlin during the final days of Nazi Germany. They married on 29 April 1945 and died by suicide the following day. John Boyne’s The Boy at the Top of the Mountain places her within the Berghof household encountered by its fictional young protagonist.
