Doc Holliday

1851–1887

Doc Holliday was an American dentist, gambler and gunfighter best known for his association with Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, Arizona Territory. His participation in the gunfight near the O.K. Corral and the subsequent vendetta became central to the mythology of frontier law, violence and personal loyalty.

Holliday trained as a dentist but tuberculosis pushed him westward into a life increasingly centred on gambling and frontier towns. He formed a close association with Wyatt Earp and fought beside the Earp brothers at Tombstone in 1881, later joining the vendetta ride after Morgan Earp’s murder. Holliday eventually settled in Colorado and died of tuberculosis at Glenwood Springs in 1887.

Hourly History’s Doc Holliday follows the Georgia-born dentist whose illness, gambling and movement through western towns brought him into the violent world of frontier law and feuds. Hourly History’s Wyatt Earp follows his work in Kansas cattle towns, movement to Arizona and alliance with his brothers and Doc Holliday.
