Historical person

Diodorus Siculus

Diodorus Siculus was a Greek historian of the first century BC. His Library of History attempted a universal narrative from mythic times to his own age and preserves material from many otherwise lost authors.

Diodorus composed his Library of History in forty books, of which substantial portions survive. Although he relied heavily on earlier historians and is not always easy to evaluate as an independent witness, his work preserves information from many sources that are otherwise lost. For Hellenistic history in particular, the surviving books are indispensable to modern reconstruction of wars, dynasties and political change.
