Dabulamanzi kaMpande
1839–1886
Dabulamanzi kaMpande was a son of King Mpande and a half-brother of Cetshwayo. He served as a Zulu commander during the Anglo-Zulu War and took part in the fighting around the opening battles of the campaign.
After the Zulu victory at Isandlwana on 22 January 1879, Dabulamanzi led a large force across the border to attack the British post at Rorke’s Drift. The assault failed after repeated attacks against the fortified garrison. He later took part in further operations, including Gingindlovu. Ian Knight’s histories place him among the important Zulu commanders whose actions shaped the campaign beyond the better-known British command narratives.
