Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord

Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord was a French statesman and diplomat whose career survived the Revolution, the Directory, Napoleon and the Bourbon Restoration. His exceptional political adaptability and diplomatic skill made him one of the most influential negotiators in Europe.
At the Congress of Vienna he represented France and successfully exploited divisions among the victorious powers to restore French influence. Adam Zamoyski treats Talleyrand as a central participant in Rites of Peace and in the wider post-revolutionary political world examined in Phantom Terror. These are nonfiction works.
