Antonius Diogenes

c. 2nd century–c. 2nd century

Antonius Diogenes was an ancient Greek prose writer known as the author of The Wonders Beyond Thule , a long romantic adventure narrative that is now lost in its complete form. His date is uncertain, although he is generally placed in the Roman imperial period.

The work survives chiefly through a detailed summary by the ninth-century scholar Photius and through scattered references and papyrus evidence. Its mixture of travel, marvels, embedded stories and fantastic geography makes Diogenes an important early figure in the development of Greek prose romance.
