Ahmed I
1590–1617
Ahmed I was sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1603 to 1617. His reign included war with the Habsburgs and Safavids, internal pressure within the empire, and the construction of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul, better known as the Blue Mosque.
David Gilman’s The Knife Maker of Venice is set in 1604, Richard Sheriff and his sister Elizabeth are taken from Devon by slave raiders and separated.
