Battle of Mohi
11 April 1241
The Hungarian army assembled near the Sajó River while Mongol forces under Batu Khan and Subutai manoeuvred around its fortified camp. Fighting began at the bridge and expanded as Mongol units crossed by additional routes.
Artillery, encirclement and controlled openings in the Mongol line turned the Hungarian withdrawal into a rout. King Béla IV escaped, but much of his army and many leading nobles were killed.
