In 1940, eighteen-year-old Juliet Armstrong is recruited by British intelligence and assigned to monitor conversations among Nazi sympathisers in London. Her seemingly clerical work draws her into deception, invented identities and the moral compromises of wartime espionage. A decade later, working at the BBC, Juliet finds that the past has not remained safely buried.
