For the Immortal

For the Immortal retells the world of Heracles through women whose lives intersect with the hero’s quest. Admete, daughter of Eurystheus, is drawn into an expedition that carries her toward the Amazons and their queen Hippolyta, where the familiar labour of the girdle becomes a story of competing loyalties, female authority and survival. Hauser shifts attention away from heroic legend to the women usually left at its margins while retaining the danger and scale of Greek myth.
