Book
Chancellorsville
Chancellorsville reconstructs the May 1863 campaign in which Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson defeated Joseph Hooker’s larger Army of the Potomac. Sears follows the planning, marches, command decisions and fighting in the tangled Virginia Wilderness, while giving close attention to Hooker’s loss of initiative and Jackson’s celebrated flank attack. The narrative also examines the heavy casualties and Jackson’s mortal wounding, which made the Confederate victory both dramatic and costly.
