Armadale

Armadale follows two young men who share the name Allan Armadale and are bound by a crime committed by their fathers. When inheritance, coincidence and concealed identities bring them together, the formidable Lydia Gwilt enters their lives with plans of her own. Collins builds the novel around forged documents, dreams, attempted murder and changing loyalties, using Victorian anxieties about identity, money and respectability to drive an elaborate sensation plot.
