Another Life

After years of unsuccessful fertility treatment, Angie DeSaria’s marriage collapses beneath the weight of grief and disappointment. She returns to the small Pacific Northwest town where she grew up and joins her sisters in trying to save the family’s struggling Italian restaurant. The work gives Angie a familiar routine, but it cannot answer her fear that the life she expected—especially motherhood—has disappeared.

Lauren Ribido is a gifted high-school student living with an unreliable, alcoholic mother and planning an escape through university. When Angie hires her, the two form a bond that becomes more consequential after Lauren is abandoned and discovers that she is pregnant. Their relationship forces both women to reconsider what makes a family and whether care, responsibility and forgiveness can create a future neither had imagined.
