Six-Day War

The Six-Day War began on 5 June 1967 after mounting regional tension, Egyptian troop movements in Sinai, the closure of the Straits of Tiran and failed diplomacy. Israel launched pre-emptive air attacks and then fought Egypt, Jordan and Syria on several fronts.

Within six days Israel had captured the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip from Egypt, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syria. The victory transformed the region but also began a prolonged occupation and intensified disputes over territory, security and Palestinian statehood.

The Hope culminates in the war, following military planning, the Sinai campaign and the capture of the Old City of Jerusalem. The Glory begins in its aftermath, when the apparent decisiveness of victory gives way to new strategic dangers.
