Fort Parker Attack

On 19 May 1836, a large Indigenous war party attacked the Parker family settlement and fort in what is now Limestone County, Texas. Several residents were killed and five captives were taken, among them nine-year-old Cynthia Ann Parker.

Cynthia Ann Parker was adopted into a Comanche community, married the Quahadi leader Peta Nocona and became the mother of Quanah Parker. Her later forced return to Anglo-Texan society made the attack central to competing narratives of captivity, kinship and frontier expansion.

Within the broader Texas–Comanche conflict, this attack provides a particularly precise setting for fiction about Cynthia Ann Parker and her Comanche family.
