Battle of Boxtel

The Battle of Boxtel was fought in 1794 during the Flanders Campaign, as French Republican forces pressed allied troops in the Low Countries. The action formed part of the wider collapse of the allied position rather than a decisive single battle.

Boxtel mattered because it placed British troops in the confused, difficult campaigning conditions that characterised the early war against Revolutionary France. For junior officers, such actions combined limited visibility, fragile orders and the sudden need to keep men together under pressure.
