Roman Campaign on Mona
60–61 CE
Governor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus led Roman forces against Mona, modern Anglesey, in AD 60 or 61. Roman accounts describe the island as a centre of druidic resistance and a refuge for opponents of Roman rule.
The attack was interrupted by news that Boudica and the Iceni had risen in eastern Britain. Suetonius withdrew his forces and marched south while the rebels destroyed Camulodunum, Londinium and Verulamium.
The subject appears in fiction connecting the campaign against the druids with the outbreak of the Boudican Revolt and the military crisis faced by Roman Britain.
