Apuleius was a Latin prose author and philosopher best known for the novel The Golden Ass.

Apuleius came from Roman North Africa and wrote speeches, philosophical works and the Metamorphoses, better known as The Golden Ass. The novel combines magic, transformation, travel, comic danger and religious initiation.

He belongs in Classical for pages on Roman Africa, ancient fiction, magic, Isis worship and imperial Latin prose. His work is one of the most important surviving examples of the ancient novel.
