Terence

Terence wrote six surviving comedies in the second century BCE, adapting Greek New Comedy with a smoother, more controlled Latin style than Plautus. His plays focus on family negotiation, social deception, marriage and generational conflict.

He belongs in Classical for pages on Roman theatre, education, Latin style and comedy. His works were central school texts in later antiquity and medieval Europe, making him important for the transmission of classical drama.
