Geoffrey Chaucer Mysteries

The Geoffrey Chaucer mysteries recast the fourteenth-century poet, courtier and royal administrator as an investigator during the troubled reign of Richard II. Trow draws on Chaucer’s documented work in royal service and his journeys through England while giving him fictional murder cases whose suspects range across aristocratic households, London officials, pilgrims and university communities.

The series begins in 1380 and quickly moves into the upheaval of the Peasants’ Revolt, using political tension, class resentment and medieval institutions as parts of the mystery rather than decorative background. Titles deliberately echo The Canterbury Tales, while the investigations place Chaucer’s sharp observation of social types and human weakness at the centre of the detective plots.
