Thrasybulus

Thrasybulus was an Athenian general and democratic leader who helped overthrow the Thirty Tyrants after the Peloponnesian War. His actions restored democracy in Athens after a period of oligarchic violence and Spartan-backed rule.

In Mary Renault’s The Last of the Wine, he and Lysis join Thrasybulus's democratic exiles, and their struggle to restore the city culminates at Munychia, where political liberation and private grief become inseparable.
