The Foreign Correspondent Series

The Foreign Correspondent mysteries follow British historian and Great War veteran Sir Archie Laverick and ambitious American journalist Esme Carmichael as they investigate crimes in European capitals during the unstable early 1930s. Operation Berlin places them in Germany in 1930; the novella Operation Lost Hours continues their Berlin partnership; Operation Vienna moves them to Austria in 1931; and Operation Paris takes them to France in 1932.

Their investigations combine classic mystery plotting with the political and economic pressures of interwar Europe. Archie’s historical research and Esme’s journalism bring them into contact with diplomats, military figures, newspapers and social elites, while each case is shaped by a different city and by events whose later consequences are not yet clear to the characters.
