Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat

Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat, was a Scottish peer and British Army officer closely associated with the wartime Commandos. By D-Day he commanded 1st Special Service Brigade, whose units landed on Sword Beach and advanced inland to reinforce airborne troops around the Orne and Caen Canal bridges.

Lovat became one of the most recognisable personalities of the British D-Day landings, although later accounts often added legend to an already dramatic record. Max Hastings’s Sword reassesses the commanders and ordinary soldiers who fought on and beyond the beach. The book is nonfiction.
