Walthère Dewé
1880–1944
Walthère Dewé was a Belgian engineer who became a leading organiser of clandestine intelligence against German occupation. During the First World War he was associated with the network remembered as La Dame Blanche, which gathered military information and moved reports through neutral territory to Allied intelligence.
During the Second World War Dewé again became involved in clandestine intelligence, helping organise the network known as the Clarence Service. He was killed by German forces in 1944. Helen Fry’s The White Lady places Dewé within the documented history of Belgian networks working for British intelligence across both wars.
