Emily Brontë
1818–1848
Emily Brontë was an English novelist and poet raised at the Brontë Parsonage in Haworth. With Anne she developed the imaginary world of Gondal, and she wrote poetry throughout her adult life while spending most of her time within the family household.
Her only novel, Wuthering Heights, was published in 1847 under the name Ellis Bell. Its unconventional structure and emotional violence initially divided reviewers but later secured its place as a major work of English literature. Emily died of tuberculosis in 1848.
